The Curry Mile

No visit to this part of Manchester is complete without a trip to the Curry Mile — the stretch of Wilmslow Road through Rusholme, about a 15–20 minute walk south from the Kilburn Building (or a very short bus ride on any Oxford Road service heading south). It is one of the most celebrated concentrations of South Asian restaurants in Europe, with dozens of Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi restaurants, sweet shops and cafés open late into the night.

  • My Peshawar – 50–52 Wilmslow Rd. One of Manchester’s most celebrated Pakistani restaurants, known for its lamb karahi, chapli kebabs and lamb chops. Expect queues on weekends — it is worth it. (4.8 ★, 4,500+ reviews)
  • Bardez – 35 Wilmslow Rd. Indian street food and grill with bold, distinctive flavours. The Malvani chicken and starter platters come highly recommended. (4.8 ★)
  • Ziya Asian Grill – 65–67 Wilmslow Rd. A popular curry house with a broad menu and a licensed bar. Good for larger groups. (4.6 ★)
  • Mughli Charcoal Pit – 30 Wilmslow Rd. A Curry Mile institution. Dishes cooked over a charcoal pit — the Malai Broccoli and butter chicken are standouts. (4.2 ★)
  • Chit ‘N’ Chaat – 205 Wilmslow Rd. Relaxed all-day café, popular for breakfast, chai and chaat dishes. A lower-key option, good value. (4.4 ★)

Most Curry Mile restaurants are BYOB or serve soft drinks only, with very reasonable prices. Many are open until midnight or later. Book ahead for larger groups, especially Thursday to Saturday evenings.
